We Would All be in Trouble!

I
want to share a story!
I was in the U.S. Navy
Seabees stationed at Gulfport MS in 1978. A couple of my Navy
buddies decided we should go to New Orleans one Friday night
to see if all the great stories we heard were true of the Crescent
City.
We found our way to the French Quarter and ended up at Pat
Obrien's imbibing on the famous "hurricanes" in the
courtyard by the fountain. It was a typical crowded Friday night
and we were finally able to find a seat with a couple that were
sitting by the fountain. We struck up a conversation and found
out he was also in the Navy and had just gotten orders to leave
for a new duty station within the next couple of days.
The conversation and the hurricanes continued unabated for
sometime and I couldn't help but notice the collection of cups
and 'straws' that began to accumulate at our table and those
around us. I began by collecting all the straws from our table
and connecting them together to form one long one- before I knew
it we were handing this continuos straw to other tables with
everyone joining in adding straws from their own tables. The
connected straws began to make its ways around the fountain
and by the time it ended it must have 100' long. I couldn't believe
the patrons participation.
The night was getting late and we were debating whether or
not to drive back to Gulfport or stay the night in New Orleans
when to my suprise and delight Priscilla not wanting to "sound
presumptuous" offered to let us stay the night at her home
which we willing accepted. Her companion had some reservations
however she insisted and we followed her home to River Ridge.
She had room for all of us to sleep comfortably that night
and we all were gentleman and thanked her for her hospitality
the following morning. Priscilla and I exchanged phone numbers
and thus began an extended relationship for the next year or
so that I continue to have fond memories of to this day. I was
very fortunate to not only see the great things the City of New
Orleans had to offer i.e.... food, music, people etc. but I was
able to share it with a very lovely women.
Thanks for this opportunity to share this!
